Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
This policy explains what information Sierra Leone Minerals Register ("we", "us") collects when you use this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account details — if you register: your name, email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
- Things you submit — scam reports, transaction-monitoring requests and any documents or details you upload for screening.
- Usage data — pages you view, searches you run, actions you take, the approximate country you visit from (derived from your IP address), the site that referred you, and time spent. We use this to run, secure and improve the service and to detect abuse.
- Cookies — a session cookie to keep you signed in, a visit identifier to measure usage, and a small preference cookie (e.g. light/dark theme). See "Cookies" below.
How we use your information
- To provide verification, licence look-up, monitoring and reporting features.
- To create and secure your account and prevent fraud, spam and abuse of the service.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
- To contact you about your reports, your account, or (if you opt in) service updates.
Third parties
We use a limited number of service providers to run the site — for example, an IP geolocation lookup to show the approximate country of a visit, and our email provider to send account and notification messages. We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect against fraud or harm.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them to keep you signed in, remember your display preference and measure usage. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features (such as staying signed in) may not work without them.
Data retention & security
We keep account and submission data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymise it. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, but no online service can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your choices
You can access or update your account details when signed in, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data. To make a request, contact info@sierraleoneminerals.org.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "last updated" date above when we do.
